Maestro

Quarter tones: with the > and < keys (or Notation → Raise a Quarter Tone and Lower a Quarter Tone) notes get the half sharp, sharp and a half, half flat and flat and a half, sound in tune during playback and go into MusicXML.

Combined staves: two identical instruments, such as Bassoon 1 and 2, appear in the score on a single staff «Bassoon 1-2», with chords, «a 2», «I.» and «II.», while the parts stay separate (Score Instruments… → Score and Parts).

View → Visible Layers: you hide and show layers on screen, one by one or all except the active one (⌥⌘0, Ctrl+Alt+0 on Windows), as in Finale; hidden notes stay in the score, play and print.

File → Export LilyPond (.ly)… and Export MEI (.mei)…: the score, or the part you are viewing, to open with LilyPond and Frescobaldi or with Verovio and mei-friend, with notes, lyrics, chord symbols, markings, repeats and Maestro's system breaks.

Mac: with VoiceOver the score can be reached and read, with the title, the cursor position and help with the reading shortcuts; quarter tones are spoken with their names.

Finale files: each part of a .musx keeps its Finale layout and part staff size; each system keeps the measures it had in Finale, squeezing them as Finale does; the line below the title becomes the subtitle. When exporting to .musx, parts have Maestro's part page and staff size.

Faster large scores: after each note you write, Maestro redraws the page in less than half the time. A damaged file gives an error message instead of making Maestro quit.

Ties into a repeat and in the second ending: the tie goes toward the barline, and the first note of the second ending receives it from the tied note before the first ending.

Maestro

MusicXML files also bring line thicknesses and the colors and enclosures of texts.

Repeat endings: only the texts above them move up over the bracket; Segno, Coda, D.S., Fine and To Coda can be moved by dragging them.

Speedy Entry: numbers write notes again even with a MIDI source that isn't played (IAC driver, virtual ports); in the piano roll, during playback, the view stays on the octave you are looking at.

Mac: Maestro no longer sometimes quits when starting playback or hearing a note with a SoundFont.

Maestro

Scripts menu (Mac and Windows): Lua scripts, like RGP Lua scripts in Finale. They see the whole score, use the palette commands and undo in a single step; there are ready-made examples, parameters asked in a form, Run Again (⌥⌘U, Ctrl+Alt+U), Stop and the console. They run in a sandbox: no files, system or network.

Scripts: the RGP Lua iteration functions (eachentry, eachcell…), the original data of scores opened from Finale and five new examples based on the most popular scripts: keep one note of each chord, double notes, swap two layers, remove articulations from rests, count durations.

Scripts → Run on a Folder… applies a script to many scores at once without overwriting the originals; for the terminal there is the maestro-script command.

Assistants such as Claude can work on the scores open in Maestro if you allow it from the Scripts menu: they open, run scripts, look at the pages and save, only in the folders you allow. The manual has a new «Scripts» chapter.

Mid-measure clef changes: drawn smaller in front of the note they apply from. With the Clef tool, clicking a note inside the measure puts the clef there, and clicking the small clef removes it. They are read from Finale, MusicXML (including PDFs and scans) and MuseScore and written to MusicXML and .musx; they used to end up at the start of the measure.

Rehearsal Mark…: a dialog of its own with a preview, also by double-clicking the mark.
