How to install, update and remove Maestro, and how to reach us if something goes wrong.

Installing on a Mac

  1. Download the .dmg file and double-click it.
  2. In the window that opens, drag the Maestro icon onto the Applications folder.
  3. Open Maestro from the Applications folder or Launchpad. The app is signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without warnings.
  4. You can eject the “Maestro” disk and move the .dmg file to the Trash.

Requirements

macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Macs with Apple Silicon or Intel.

Updating

Download the new version and drag it into Applications again, replacing the old one: your scores and settings stay where they are.

Uninstalling

Drag Maestro from the Applications folder to the Trash. Settings and personal templates are in Library → Application Support → Maestro.

Installing on Windows

  1. Download the .exe file and double-click it.
  2. Windows may warn that the program comes from an unknown publisher, because Maestro for Windows is not digitally signed yet: choose “More info” and then “Run anyway”.
  3. Follow the setup: by default Maestro installs just for you, without an administrator password. The same file works on Intel/AMD and ARM PCs.
  4. Open Maestro from the Start menu. .maestro files open with a double-click, and Maestro appears under “Open with” for MusicXML, MIDI and Finale files.

Requirements: 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. Since version 0.9.4 Maestro updates itself (once a day, or from Help → Check for Updates…); to uninstall, use Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Maestro.
